On 17 & 18 Oct the 29th & 30th Entry Telegraphists held their fourth reunion. 18 stalwarts assembled at the popular Barnsdale Hotel, near Oakham, Rutland. Particular reference should be made to the efforts of Paul
Roberts and John Usher who travelled from Australia and Norway respectively. Following a hectic first evening the troops split for various events on Saturday morning – some for golf and some on a raiding party to nearby Melton Mowbray, presumably in
search of Pork Pies while others tried their hand at bowls. Some of the golfing fraternity came back in joyous mood, others not quite so.!
The group sat for dinner on the Saturday evening where a hearty meal was enjoyed followed
by two excellent after dinner tales from two talented speakers in Mike (Slash) Roberts and his name sake Paul Roberts. Mike regaled us with several humorous incidents during his service life that led to his after-service life in teaching and a lengthy
period of Coast Guard Service. Paul set the tone for his speech by opening with a hilarious joke followed by the interesting progress of his professional life in business out in Oz.
Some managed to continue until the late hours to put
the world to rights while others contemplated long journeys home the following day and retired with a mug of cocoa.
It was pleasing to see a full complement at breakfast after which farewells were made with the promise of being reunited
again on 16-17 Oct 2015.
Thank you all for attending, especially those who travelled so far.
